Psalm 44:19-21

¹⁹But you crushed us in this place where ·wild dogs [jackals] live [^Cdesolate areas],
and you covered us with ·deep darkness [or the shadow of death; Nah. 1:8].

²⁰If we had forgotten the name of our God
or ·lifted [^Lspread] our hands in prayer to ·foreign [^Lstrange] gods,
²¹·God would have known [^LWould not God discover this…?],
because he knows ·what is in [^Lthe secrets of] our hearts.
